Job Title: Minister of Children and Youth

 

 

 

Overview of All Saints’ United Methodist Church

All Saints’ United Methodist Church (ASUMC) is an active, multi-generational congregation planted over 17 years ago in the Brier Creek area of Raleigh/Durham.

 

In order to be most effective in fulfilling our Mission of “gathering people into communion with Jesus Christ, one another and the world”, ASUMC is seeking a faith-filled, creative, flexible and energetic Minister of Children and Youth to oversee and nurture the deepening of discipleship among children, youth, and families within our congregation and community.

Maintains a positive attitude and demonstrates excellent collaboration skills.

Demonstrates leadership and experience in event planning and working with volunteers.

Desires to become an active participant in the community of All Saints’ UMC.

Has experience using social media as a tool for communication and outreach.

Part-time position

Compensation to be determined based on experience, paid monthly

 

Responsibilities: 

Establish and lead a long-term vision for Children’s Ministry, Youth Ministry and Families by collaborating with staff to establish goals and objectives, and oversee budget accordingly.

Develop and implement age-appropriate milestones for spiritual development.

Recruit, train, and support volunteers.

Prepare parents to be responsible for their children’s spiritual formation, in partnership with the congregation.

Integrate children and youth into the life of the church through worship and missions opportunities.

Develop and grow discipleship opportunities for children and youth, to include selecting, preparing, and evaluating curriculum as well as providing training for teachers, when needed.

 

Responsibilities specific to each ministry area:

 

Children’s Ministry - Nursery - 5th grade (45%)

Organize and schedule child care workers to provide supervision to the nursery during worship and other meetings, as needed.

Work with relevant committees to plan and implement programming for children and families.

Plan and participate in children’s ministry events.

Establish/continue a Children’s Church activity during worship to engage young children in meaningful opportunities to encounter God.

 

Youth Ministry - 6th - 12th grade (30%)

Plan and lead youth group gatherings, as well as other youth events, mission trips, retreats, etc.

Plan and lead confirmation classes, when needed.

Identify pathways and offerings for college students to stay connected with the United Methodist Church in meaningful ways.

 

Preschool Ministry (10%) 

Support and collaborate with the preschool Leadership to conduct age-appropriate Preschool Chapel services once a week with students. Incorporate preschool ministry as a nurturing and welcoming environment at All Saints’.

 

Adult Discipleship Ministry (5%)

Support and/or lead a Life Group, study group or other discipleship ministry. Work in coordination with the Parents of Young Children Life Group to offer parallel children’s programming during their meetings. 

 

Administration (10%)

Support the above responsibilities through necessary administrative tasks.

Be an integral part of the ASUMC staff and attend staff meetings.

Work closely with the Lead Pastor to identify opportunities to strengthen greater connection with existing and new children, youth, and families.

Other duties as assigned.

Job Title: Church Pianist

 

 

The All Saints’ United Methodist Church Pianist will play an essential role in the mission and ministry of All Saints' by providing piano accompaniment during weekly worship services and other activities in support of the music ministry of the church. This individual will collaborate with fellow staff members, working under the direction of the Minister of Music and Liturgy. This is a part-time, year-round position. Attendance is expected for Sunday morning worship services, rehearsals with other church musicians, and other special services, including (but not limited to) Christmas Eve and Easter.

Personal Requirements

● Flexibility in work schedule, with specific availability for Wednesday evening rehearsals and Sunday activities.
● Ability to compassionately interact with a variety of people.
● Ability to take direction and work as a team member.
● Communicates well and in a friendly manner with the church leadership, church choir, and members of the congregation.


Musical Experience and Ability
● Experience in church worship and familiarity with The United Methodist Hymnal. Familiarity with the Upper Room Worship book is a bonus.
● Flexibility to play in various styles of worship services, including traditional, contemporary, and blended (incorporating both traditional and modern music).
● Knowledge of the instrument and oversight for care of church musical equipment.
● Knowledge of basic music theory and ability to perform simple transpositions or reharmonizations.
● Ability to sight-read music as well as chord charts and lead sheets.
● Willingness to rehearse sufficiently to maintain a high quality of music.


Musical Requirements and Availability
● Support the church’s worship environment through the well-prepared execution of music.

● Plan and prepare preludes, postludes, hymns, musical responses, and offertories, in collaboration with the Minister of Music and Liturgy, according to the needs of the worship services.
● Serve as accompanist on Sunday mornings during worship services.
● Serve as accompanist for the choir and other musical groups in regular and special rehearsals and performances, as coordinated with the Minister of Music and Liturgy.
● Lead sectional rehearsals, as coordinated with the Minister of Music and Liturgy.
● Lead the choir and other musical groups in rehearsals and services in absence of the Minister of Music and Liturgy, as needed and upon availability.
● Play for weddings and funerals, as requested and upon availability, being permitted to receive additional compensation from the parties involved.
● Oversee piano needs and maintenance, and notify the Minister of Music and Liturgy accordingly.


Planning, Organizing, and Reporting
● Coordinate with the Minister of Music and Liturgy weekly to plan Sunday morning music.
● Promptly report planned absences to the Minister of Music and Liturgy to allow for scheduling of a substitute pianist, and assist in finding a substitute.
● Partner with other staff and lay leaders in coordinating the yearly church calendar and major events as they relate to music.
● Assist in recruiting volunteers to support specific activities/events (Christmas/Easter  Cantatas, special musical events).
